Mónica
Clinic Director
About Mónica:
Monica has worn a variety of hats since joining the NGFC team in June of 2022, but she now helps guide the mission and operations of the office as clinic director (though she prefers the title “supreme leader of all things”). Originally from San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico, she came to the U.S. when she was five. She met her Air Force husband in Tucson, Arizona, and after living for several years in Okinawa, Japan, they moved to Colorado Springs in 2019.
The first in her family to pursue higher education, Monica graduated from the University of Arizona with a degreein Spanish Literature and a minor in Religious Studies. Nowadays, she enjoys getting creative and trying new things in the kitchen, singing karaoke, and enjoying the outdoors (she secretly wishes her alter ego was a wilderness survivalist). She and her husband recently adopted Percival, who is supposedly a pomeranian, but looks something akin to a fox and a cloud of fluff. Monica is known around the office for her big heart and her love language (food), and you would absolutely make her day by letting her pet your dog or hold your baby.
A Message from Mónica:
I believe that God guided me to NGFC. For years, I struggled with severe gastro issues that no doctor could explain. Despite countless tests and specialists, I had excruciating abdominal and colon pain, a pain that would bring me to my knees as I tried to stay conscious. I often avoided the hospital unless it was unbearable, fearing they'd think I was just after pain meds.
I eventually tried various alternative medicines, which helped a lot, but never completely solved the problem. When I finally felt well enough to work again, I ended up at NGFC, even though my background was in nonprofit work. At first, I didn't understand why.
Then, at NGFC, I found a crucial piece of the puzzle: a misaligned vertebra in my lumbar region was pressing on nerves connected to my gastro system. Addressing this allowed for significant leaps in my healing journey—I can now tolerate foods that I hadn’t been able to eat in years. I literally cried when I had my first donut in eight years! (It was a better-for-you donut from Sweet Elizabeth’s, an NGFC favorite!).
Now, being part of the NGFC team, I meet others going through similar journeys. My own struggles have given me deep empathy for those with chronic health issues. If you're dealing with something similar, know that you're not alone. Our bodies can heal, and there’s always hope. I believe God brought me here to offer support and love to those on their healing paths.
